Dr. Slim Azouzi is a senior researcher in molecular medicine and cell biology, specializing in erythroid diseases and developmental biology, with a strong focus on translational research. His work investigates the molecular mechanisms governing hematopoiesis and red blood cell membrane structure and function, with particular interest in inflammation and molecular blood group antigens and their clinical relevance. By integrating fundamental and applied approaches, he aims to advance the understanding of red blood cell disorders and contribute to the development of improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
We are interested in identifying opportunities to translate insights from our studies into improved therapies for anemia. In particular, we aim to gain molecular understanding of how hematopoiesis is perturbed in sickle cell disease and in anemia of aging. We integrate modern human genetic approaches, including the study of rare blood group phenotypes, with functional analyses using a range of innovative genomic technologies and classical hematopoietic assays.
