BaHSic at the 5th GR-Ex Scientific Retreat

Last week, we had the opportunity to take part in the 5th GR-Ex Scientific Retreat held in Salies-de-Béarn, a stimulating event that brought together the GR-Ex community for several days of scientific exchange, reflection, and collaboration.

The programme highlighted the diversity and excellence of ongoing research, with sessions covering therapeutic innovation, sickle cell disease, red blood cell biology, erythropoiesis, aging, inflammation, as well as advances in genomics, proteomics, and translational approaches.

This retreat also provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the achievements of Labex GR-Ex and to discuss the future perspectives of InIdEx GR-Ex.

We warmly thank the Scientific Advisory Board for their presence and insightful contributions, as well as all GR-Ex members, speakers, and organizers whose commitment made this event a success.

Official launch of the SHELTER programme
(Interreg Caraïbes)

The Caribbean Network of Researchers on Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia (CAREST) officially launched the SHELTER programme, bringing together its partners around a clear and shared objective: Strengthening the fight against sickle cell disease in the Caribbean by improving access to care and developing regional research programmes.

This launch marks an important milestone for regional collaboration and commitment to patients and research innovation.

Congratulations and many thanks to our colleagues in Pointe-à-Pitre, whose strong involvement and dedication play a key role in the success of the CAREST network.

A New doctor from our laboratory

Léa Kuznicki successfully defended her doctoral thesis on Thursday, December 4th”

Her work investigated the effects of hydroxyurea on the regulation of erythropoiesis in sickle cell disease.

We were deeply impressed by the high scientific level of discussion she achieved with her examining committee.

A New doctor from our laboratory

Alisa Soudry, PhD student in our laboratory, has brilliantly defended her thesis entitled “Characterization of new blood group antigens and their functions in blood cells.”

She delivered a clear and compelling presentation of her outstanding results and explained the successive steps required to discover new blood groups.

Medals of Involvement Ceremony – Université Paris Cité

On September 16, 2025, the first ceremony for the awarding of the Medals of Involvement of Université Paris Cité took place.

This distinction aims to recognize and celebrate colleagues who have contributed in an exemplary manner to the influence of the University, whether through their work in research, innovation, teaching, or institutional engagement.

On this occasion, our colleague and former director, Caroline Le Van Kim, was honored for her remarkable career, marked by constant and exceptional dedication to research and education.

We are proud to count Caroline among us and grateful to benefit every day from her experience and expertise.

4th Translational Research Conference: Pathophysiology and Clinical Advances in Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia

This recognized conference took place from March 14 to 16, 2025, in Malahide (Dublin, Ireland)

Our unit was excellently represented through the presentations of:
